HUNTINGDON, Pa.- In what has become an annual tradition, the Juniata College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a holiday food drive at the Men's and Women's Basketball games this past Saturday, collecting non-perishable goods to support the Standing Stone Elementary School Backpack Program.
According to the most recent Feeding America "Map the Meal Gap" study, the USDA estimates that 42 million people, including 13 million children, in the United States experienced food insecurity in 2015. Nearly 55% of the more than 500 students at Standing Stone Elementary participate in the free and reduced lunch program and the mission of the Backpack program is to provide supplemental meals over the weekend for children who are most in need. With the generous support of our fans, the Juniata College SAAC was able to deliver over 200 pounds of food as well as monetary donations to the Program.
The Juniata College SAAC is a passionate group of student-athlete representatives from each of the varsity sport teams at Juniata College who provide a bridge between student-athletes and the greater Juniata community.
