Softball Splits Doubleheader at Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team dropped game one, 3-2 before defeating Mt. Aloysius, 5-3 in game two, Thursday afternoon.

The teams were scoreless until Mt. Aloysius scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. Juniata tied things up in the fifth after Alyssa "Sheddy" Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) tripled to center field and Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS) singled to right field for a RBI. Things were tied until the top of the seventh when JC took the lead, 2-1. Shedlock doubled to left field then stole third. Ebright singled to center field, bringing Shedlock home. The Eagles one point lead wasn't enough has the Mounties scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to win game one, 3-2. 

Shedlock went 2-4 with a triple, a double, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Ebright went 2-2 with two RBI's. 

In game two, Juniata got on the board first, taking the lead, 1-0 in the first inning. Shedlock started off the game being hit by a pitch to advance to first. After a ground out to second, Shedlock advanced and then scored on a passed ball. The Mounties scored in the bottom of the third and the sixth to lead, 3-1. 

Juniata closed out the game scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to secure their, 5-3 win. Maya McLeod (San Diego, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day School) started off the inning with a walk to first then advanced to second after the next batter was hit by a pitch. McLeod then advanced to third on a passed ball. Molly Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central) reached first on a fielder's choice. After a Shedlock single to right field; she advanced both Ulrich and McLeod. Ebright singled to center field, advanced to second on an error by the center fielder, and advanced to third on the throw. Shedlock scored on an error by the center fielder and Ulrich also scored on the play. Maggie Peck (Philipsburg, Pa. / Philipsburg Osceola) singled to second base, bringing Ebright home for the Eagles fifth run scored. 

Juniata will host Elizabethtown for a conference doubleheader starting at 1:00PM, Saturday.
