Juniata track and field squads compete at Greyhound Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Both Juniata men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in Moravian College’s Greyhound Invitational Friday and Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. 

Junior Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and sophomore Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) had Juniata’s top finishes for the women. On the track, Woods took fourth in the 1500m run with a 4:47.80 time. Shaffer also placed fourth in the high jump with a clearing height of 5’ 1¾” (1.57m).

Seniors Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) and Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) were the Eagles top male performers of the invitational, with Parker finishing the 1500m run in 3:59.88 to place sixth. Bauer took home seventh in the men’s long jump with a leap of 21’ 2” (6.45m). 

Jack Iosue (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) earned tenth in the javelin throw with a 185’ 11” mark, and Justin Herr (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) rounded out the jumping events with a ninth place in the triple jump with a personal best 42’ 6¾” (12.97m) finish.

On the track for the men, Vinny Smith (Butler, Pa./Mars) hurdled his way to an 11th place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.47 seconds. In the 800m run Ryan Trexler (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) placed 13th with a time of 1:58.00, and Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) finished the 400m hurdles in 57.29 to earn 10th.

In the women’s field events, Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) threw the javelin 104’ 5” (31.82m) for 13th, and senior Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) placed fifth in the high jump with a 5’ 1 ¾” (1.57m) mark.

Brown also placed 13th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.67, and took 14th in the 110m hurdles with a 17.45 time. Shaffer placed 10th in the 110m hurdles with a finishing time of 15.70 seconds.

Both squads will compete at the Landmark Outdoor Track and Field Championships on April 28-29 at Moravian College.
