HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Caroline Phillips (Wilmington, Del./Concord) was named the Landmark Conference field hockey offensive player of the week, the league announced Monday. Phillips accounted for half of the Eagle field hockey teams goals to help lead Juniata to a 2-0 record last week.
“Caroline is one of those players that I wish I had two of her, one for offense and one for defense,” said Juniata Head Coach Caroline Gillich. “That’s really the role that she’s played for us and I’ve told her this a couple times this year. So while we consider her a defensive specialist, she has shown that she is an offensive specialist as well.”
The midfielder followed a two goal performance in the Eagles 3-2 win over Dickinson (Oct. 24) with another two goals against Scranton in the 5-4 overtime victory on Oct. 28. She finished the week with one assist and four goals, two of which were game winners.
Phillips has had five multi-goal games this season and currently leads the team with 11 goals and 24 points.
Juniata plays the waiting game next. The Eagles are hoping their 9-9 record and strong schedule are enough to get them into the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason tournament. They would be playing out of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the ECAC.
