Juniata track and field teams return to action at Susquehanna Orange & Maroon meet
Juniata College junior Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) took first place in a pair of events while sophomore Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) captured first place in a third event, to highlight Juniata results at the Susquehanna University Orange & Maroon Classic, Sunday afternoon at the Garrett Complex Field House.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Juniata College junior Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) took first place in a pair of events while sophomore Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) captured first place in a third event, to highlight Juniata results at the Susquehanna University Orange & Maroon Classic, Sunday afternoon at the Garrett Complex Field House.
Shaffer won the high jump competition after clearing the bar at 5-1 ¾, and went on to take first place in the 60m high hurdles with a time of 9.81 seconds. Her finals mark in the 60m hurdles was .26 seconds faster than her nearest competitor, and was five one-hundredths of a second slower than her time in the preliminaries.
Shaffer’s prelim time of 9.76 seconds marked the third fastest 60m hurdles time this season in the Landmark, while her high jump mark was the top performance in the conference to date this season.
Woods posted a time of 10:54.70 to capture first place in the 3000m run, while teammate Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township) was fourth.
Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) rounded out the top performances on the day by the Juniata women, with her second place finish in the pole vault. Taylor’s best vault cleared a height of 9-0 ¼.
For the men, Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) took second in the 35-lb. weight throw with a toss of 45-7 ¼, a nearly two-foot improvement over his effort at the WVU Holiday Classic back in December.
Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) also captured second place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.29 – two one-hundredths of a second off the winning time, but a three one-hundredths of a second improvement over his time at the WVU meet earlier this season.
Juniata will return to Susquehanna University in two weeks to participate in the Crusader Invitational meet on Feb. 3. The Eagle track and field teams are idle next weekend.
