Shaffer takes women’s high jump while Bauer wins men’s long jump at Susquehanna Open
Juniata College’s Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) each took at individual first to highlight Juniata results at the Susquehanna Open track and field meet, held Friday night at the Garrett Sports Complex.
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Juniata College’s Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) and Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) each took at individual first to highlight Juniata results at the Susquehanna Open track and field meet, held Friday night at the Garrett Sports Complex.
Shaffer won the women’s high jump with a mark of 5-3 ¾, matching her best effort of the season set last week at the Susquehanna Invitational. Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was third in the event, clearing the bar at 5-1 ¾ for her best mark of the indoor season.
Shaffer also finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.60, and was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 32-1 ½.
Bauer won the men’s long jump with a leap of 21-4 ¾. He also finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 40-7, four spots ahead of Justin Herr (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) who turned in an effort of 39-7 ¼.
Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) rounded out the top field event finishes for Juniata; she was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 35-1 ¾.
On the track, Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) was ninth in the mile run with a time of 5:25.65, while Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) matched the finish by placing ninth in the 800m run with a time of 2:28.73.
Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) paced the men’s team with a ninth place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.96, while Trevor Stephens’ (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) time of 2:03.01 in the 800m run was good enough for 10th place.
Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) was 11th in the men’s mile, posting a time of 4:32.86.
The Susquehanna Open was Juniata’s final tune-up for the 2012 Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 25, in Selinsgrove, Pa.
