Rain doesn’t deter Eagles in Juniata Invitational track meet
A smattering of showers didn’t keep the 2012 Juniata College Invitational track and field meet from taking place Saturday at Oller Track at Knox Stadium, with several Juniata men’s and women’s track and field athletes capturing top honors.
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – A smattering of showers didn’t keep the 2012 Juniata College Invitational track and field meet from taking place Saturday at Oller Track at Knox Stadium, with several Juniata men’s and women’s track and field athletes capturing top honors.
The Juniata women were paced by first place finishes on the track by Alyssa Grube (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) in the 800m (2:26.88) and Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) in the 3000m (10:24.45).
Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) took first in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5-1 ¾, while Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) won the shot put with a throw of 35-10 ½. Kristin Gynter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) won the javelin with a throw of 107-5.
Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) took first place in three events for the men’s team, winning the discus (131-1), the hammer (137-0), and the pole vault (12-6 ¾). Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) won both the 110m hurdles (16.65) and the 400m hurdles (58.16), while Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) won the 3000m run with a time of 8:41.42.
In the sprint events, Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) was first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.32 seconds.
Juniata track and field will head to Selinsgrove, Pa., next Saturday, March 31, to compete in the Susquehanna Invitational.
