Men third, women fourth, after day one at Landmark Outdoor T&F Championship
Juniata College captured a pair of individual firsts and had four earn All-Landmark Conference honorees on Saturday’s first day of competition at the 2012 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Championships, hosted by Moravian College at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Juniata College captured a pair of individual firsts and had four earn All-Landmark Conference honorees on Saturday’s first day of competition at the 2012 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Championships, hosted by Moravian College at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) and Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) each took first in their respective events, leading Juniata to a third-place standing after six events on day one.
Clapper won the discus with a throw of 149-0, a new Landmark Conference record, while Parker captured first in the 1500m with a time of 3:57.24. Both earned First team All-Landmark Conference honors in the process.
Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) finished third in the long jump with an effort of 21-11 ½, while Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) was fourth in the 10,000m with a time of 32:42.38.
In the sprint trials, Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) and Bauer advanced to the finals of the 100m dash, with McCoy also qualifying for the 200m finals.
Moravian was leading the standings for the Landmark men's championship with 77 points, while Susquehanna was second with 60 points. Trailing Juniata was Merchant Marine (30 points), Goucher (14 points), and Catholic (11 points).
The Juniata women were paced by Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) and Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./Haverford Township), each of whom placed second. Beaver was second in the shot put with a throw of 36-1 ¼, while Morgan was second in the 10,000m with a time of 38:53.33, a time that set a new Juniata outdoor record. Both were named Second team All-Landmark honorees.
Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) was third in the long jump with a mark of 16-10, while Katrina Woods (Shirleysburg, Pa./Mount Union) was third in the 1500m with a time of 4:51.63.
Juniata finished day one fourth in the standings with 37 points. Moravian leads the women's championship with 79 points, followed by Catholic with 54 points, and Susquehanna with 46 points.
Advancing to Sunday’s sprint finals were Caitlyn Pingatore (Windber, Pa./Windber) in the 100m dash, and Erika Brown (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) in the 200m dash.
