HUNTINGDON, Pa. – After a week on the road, followed by a spring break to Florida, and numerous weather-related postponements, the Juniata College baseball team is finally ready to home the home season on Langdon-Goodale Field. The Eagles will host Gettysburg College in a single nine-inning game this Thursday, March 20, at 3:30 p.m.
Juniata, 3-11 on the year, is looking to snap a three-game losing streak and bounce back with a non-conference matchup. The Eagles are hitting .266 as a team led by junior Cody Krepps (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) (.472), sophomore Kyle Pannebaker (Thompsontown, Pa./East Juniata) (.455), and senior Joe Sforza (Pittstown, N.J./Immaculata) (.409).
Junior Chris Fulton (West Chester, Pa/Unionville High School) is leading the way for Juniata on the mound throwing a team high 25 innings and tossing the only two complete games for the Eagles this year. His 5.40 earned run average is the lowest amongst starting pitchers. In relief, freshman Eric Grace (Hopewell, Pa./Northern Bedford) has given Juniata 7.2 solid innings this year and had yet to surrender and earned run.
The Bullets stand at 8-3 on the year and are riding a five game win streak that includes doubleheader sweeps of both the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and the University of Wisconsin Lutheran. Of the five players that have started all 11 games for Gettysburg four are hitting over .300 and senior captain Patrick O'Grady with a .412 batting average, nine runs scored, 13 RBI, four doubles and two triples.
The Bullets top starter senior Drew Felsenthal is 2-1 on the year and has thrown 18.1 innings, giving up eight runs, for an ERA of 3.93. Gettysburg boasts two other players in double-digit innings and junior Eric Hungerford has a lowest-among-starters ERA of 2.16 and an opposing batting average of only .133 so far.
Juniata is 10-16 all time against Gettysburg and has lost the last three meetings between the two teams.
