Football Drops Conference Opener to WestConn
HUNTINGDON, PA- Eagles football dropped their conference opener against Western Connecticut State University on Saturday by a final score of 63-15.
The game started with high-scoring action, as both teams scored touchdowns on their opening drives. After an eight-play drive from the Wolves of WestConn, Ivan Foreman exploded out of the backfield on a 4th & 2 play for a 67-yard rushing touchdown.
A two-point conversion gave the Eagles an 8-6 edge on the scoreboard. The Wolves scored on their following two drives in the first quarter, adding 10 points to their total, with good defense from the Eagles to hold them to a field goal.
In the second quarter, the Wolves converted early with an extra possession from a turnover on the last play of the first quarter. Down 8-22, the Eagles found a response on their next drive. A nine-play, 65-yard drive was capped off with a two-yard rushing touchdown from Joey Menke which brought the score to 22-15.
In the rest of the second quarter, the Wolves' offense took off, scoring on three passing touchdowns of 25, 21, and 42 yards to take a commanding 43-15 lead at the half.
Western Connecticut scored 20 points in the second half to complete the scoring.
Juniata returns to the road next week as they travel to take on the Catholic University of America, Saturday at 1:00.
