HASSINGER’S GOAL LIFTS JUNIATA FIELD HOCKEY PAST SUSQUEHANNA
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College’s Heather Hassinger (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg) assisted on the game-tying goal and then scored what proved to be the game-winner just 14 seconds later, to lead the 16th-ranked Eagles to a 3-2 win over Susquehanna University, in Landmark Conference field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon.
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College's Heather Hassinger (Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg) assisted on the game-tying goal and then scored what proved to be the game-winner just 14 seconds later, to lead the 16th-ranked Eagles to a 3-2 win over Susquehanna University, in Landmark Conference field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon.
Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) got Juniata onto the scoreboard barely 10 minutes into the game, when she tipped in a pass from Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra).
Susquehanna came back to tie the game with 20:30 left in the half, with Maggie Kramer's goal off an assist from Rebecca Entwistle. The Crusaders then took the lead with 13:19 remaining in the opening half on an unassisted goal by Megan Sites.
Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) tied the game at 2-2 with 7:41 left on the clock, with the assist going to Hassinger, then Hassinger gave the Eagles the lead for good just 14 seconds later.
Neither team scored during the second half, in a game in which shots were hard to come by for either squad. Juniata outshot the Crusaders 9-3, while Susquehanna had a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners. The two teams were whistled for a combined 125 fouls during the day.
Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) and Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) each played 35 minutes in the Eagle goal, but were credited with no saves. Crusader goalie Lyndsay Meabon made three saves in 66 minutes of play; she was briefly relieved in the first half after sustaining a minor injury during play.
The Eagles return to action this Saturday, when they head to Madison, N.J., to face Landmark rival Drew University.
