HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College field hockey goalkeeper Shelby Miller (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was named Landmark Conference defensive player of the week, the organization announced Monday afternoon. Miller helped the Eagles secure back-to-back wins to start the 2013 season 2-0 after giving up zero goals in nearly 70 minutes in the cage
"It's a well earned honor," said head coach Caroline Gillich. "Her saves were strong, rarely giving up second opportunities at shots."
Finishing the weekend with a perfect 1.000 save percentage, Miller earned six saves across two games. Her win over Wesley was well deserved. The junior dove and swatted away a penalty stroke with under 10 minutes remaining when the Eagles led 2-1.
"She kept us in it," added Gillich. "She made a big save, at that point it would have tied it up. And that could have been a big momentum swing. That was a key save at a critical time."
Miller and the Eagles hit the road for the next three games before returning home to face No. 12 The College of New Jersey. For the complete Landmark player of the week release, click here.
