HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College field hockey team is back home again after two challenging road games. The Eagles face Bridgewater College on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. This will be the ninth meeting of the two programs in a rivalry that dates back to 1992.
"It's definitely good to be back home on our turf," said head coach Caroline Gillich. "We are excited to play in front of our home crowd. It's always a good game with Bridgewater."
Juniata finally broke out of a four-game skid with its 3-1 win over Delaware Valley last Saturday. They are 4-4 on the year and 2-1 at home. The Eagles come into the matchup against Bridgewater with a renewed offensive spirit. After scoring just two goals in the previous three games, Juniata came out and put three in against Delaware Valley, nearly doubling its point total from the previous contests.
"Certainly great to break out in our last game against Del Val," added Gillich. "Seeing so many different combinations of goals and assists. This week we continued to generate new opportunities on attacks and offensive corners."
The Eagles hope to build momentum for conference play with a win over Bridgewater and former Eagle Allyson Kenyon ('00). Kenyon is in her 11th season at the helm of her Eagles. She is 1-4 all-time when facing her alma mater and is making her third trip to Huntingdon on the visitor's bench.
"It's always fun to play against a former player and see how they have developed," said Gillich. "I don't get to do that all the time, but it's always exciting to meet someone on the sideline that you know so well."
Juniata leads the all-time series 6-2. The Eagles won 3-1 back in 2011 when the teams last met. This will be the fourth time Bridgewater has made the trip north for the matchup
