HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata field hockey team dropped their Landmark Conference opener to visiting Catholic University of America 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.
Amanda Puza made 11 saves in goal for the Eagles.
Three and a half minutes into the game, the Cardinals crossed the ball in from the right side. One of their forwards stopped the ball, turned and smacked it into the bottom right corner of the cage.
Eight minutes later, another cross from the right side found a Catholic player at the back post, and they redirected the ball past a diving Puza into the cage to double their lead.
Midway through the second quarter, the Cardinals got to a loose ball first following a corner and slotted it home.
Juniata trailed 3-0 at the break.
The teams were scoreless in the third, and Catholic added their final goal early in the fourth.
The Eagles had two penalty corners in the final two minutes of the game, but couldn't find the back of the Catholic cage.
Juniata returns to action next Saturday at Drew, with a start time of 12:00.
