Huntingdon, Pa. – Kaylyn Nierzwicki found the back of the cage late in the fourth quarter, but Juniata field hockey fell 2-1 to Drew on Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium.
The Eagles battled throughout, matching the Rangers in both shots (8-12) and penalty corners (6-6), while goalkeeper Kara Stringfellow kept the game close with five key saves.
After Drew took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter, Nierzwicki nearly equalized on a strong attempt before halftime but was denied by the Drew defense. The Rangers added a second goal in the fourth period, and Juniata responded quickly as Nierzwicki capitalized on a loose ball in front of the cage at the 56:32 mark to put the Eagles on the board.
Haleigh Wolverton, Mallory Prince, and Caitlin Steffie each registered shots on goal, while Mackenzie Long and Sophia Ganley contributed to Juniata's attacking push late in the match.
With the result, Juniata moves to 2-16 on the season and will face Catholic on Tuesday in the season finale.
