Juniata Hosts 2014 Holiday Tournament
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – This Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3-4, the Juniata College men’s basketball team will host the program’s annual Holiday Tournament in Kennedy Sports +Recreation Center. Johns Hopkins University and Case Western Reserve University will open play at 5 p.m. on Friday followed by the Eagles taking on Valley Forge Christian College in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – This Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3-4, the Juniata College men's basketball team will host the program's annual Holiday Tournament in Kennedy Sports +Recreation Center. Johns Hopkins University and Case Western Reserve University will open play at 5 p.m. on Friday followed by the Eagles taking on Valley Forge Christian College in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
Juniata stands at 8-2 on the year after an eight-game winning streak that included capturing the 2013 Comfort Inn Doc Greene Tournament championship at home before the break. After the first 10 games of the season, the Eagles are averaging 71.5 points per game and holding their opponents to just 65.6. Juniata is 1-0 in Landmark Conference play after a league opening win over Moravian and rank first in conference in scoring defense and scoring margin.
Senior Jeremy Hays (McMechen, W. Va./John Marshall) is nationally ranked in the top-10 in assists per game and in the top-15 in total assists. Seniors Kevin Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and Lucas Mellott (Warfordsburg, Pa./Southern Fulton) are both nationally ranked in individual categories and classmate Brian Scholly (State College, Pa./State College) is nationally top-10 from the free throw line.
Juniata and Valley Forge Christian have only faced off once before, in the 2010-11 season. On that day in Grantham, Pa. the Patriots defeated the Eagles 68-53. Valley Forge is 6-3 this season and coming off a dramatic 62-61 win over Maryland Bible College at the beginning of the month. Juniata has yet to face Johns Hopkins, who is 4-5 over all at 2-2 in Centennial Conference play, and is 1-1 against Case Western Reserve since the two teams first met in the 2005-06 season.
