HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata men's basketball team lost to visiting Wilkes University, 65-45, Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.
Tyler Lapetina totaled nine points, five rebounds, and a steal, while Tre Yawn added nine points, a steal, and a block off the bench. Ayden Hurley tallied eight points, two rebounds, and an assist.
Lapetina opened the game with a three off a pass from Elijah Kioko. After a Lapetina steal, Kioko converted an offensive rebound to make it 5-0.
The Colonels rattled off a 15-5 run over the next 12 minutes before Yawn scored inside to make it 15-12. Wilkes continued to push their lead and eventually pushed it into double digits.
A pair of Hurley foul shots cut the deficit to 10, 28-18, heading into the half.
Two Lapetina three-pointers and a Mason Hardy basket inside brought the Eagles within six, 34-28.
Wilkes blew the game open with a 13-1 run, making it 47-29 with 11 to play. The Eagles got the deficit down to 13 on a Hurley jumper on a Jayden Bilger assist but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
The Eagles will return to action Monday at Bridgewater.
