Yeager Claims Single Season Program Points Record Against Lycoming
Huntingdon, Pa.- The Juniata men's lacrosse team lost a close match at home to Lycoming by a score of 9-8.
Brayden Yeager got on the record-breaking road early against Lycoming, draining a shot only 49 seconds into the game. Yeager then went on to score again early in the third quarter with an assist from Dontez Porter to set his name atop the record book. Yeager was not done on the night, picking up another assist in the fourth quarter. Sterling Bechler scored three times for the Eagles with four assists and two ground balls, moving up the leaderboard to third all-time in goals. Zane Kromer ripped it tonight for the Eagles, finding the net for three goals on 13 shots with nine on net. Griffin Umstead was impressive in net tonight for the Eagles, picking up 17 saves. Chris Queen was elite on the defense, creating three turnovers for the Warriors and finding five groundballs.
The Eagles tore the scoring open, leading 2-0 within the first minute with Kromer following up the record-tying goal from Yeager. However, the Warrior stayed sharp, taking a 4-2 lead through the first 15 minutes of play. The Eagles faced a strong attack from the Warriors heading into the half, trailing 6-3 after a late Bechler goal. Kromer and Yeager found the back of the net three times in the third quarter, pushing the game to a 7-6 score at the conclusion of the third.
Still energized with halftime energy, the Eagles tied the game at seven all, on a missile from Bechler to start the fourth. In a physical game, the Warriors found two sneaky goals to lead 9-7. However, Bechler struck again with 15 seconds as the Eagles pulled within one. A last-second push fell short as shots went wide, with Lycoming taking home a win.
The Eagles will head on the road Saturday to Drew at 1:00 PM.
