Juniata Men's Soccer in Costa Rica, Day Two
By Nate Weick
The Juniata's Men's Soccer team began our second day in Costa Rica on August sixth with a full training session from a professional Costa Rican coaching staff at the training facilities of L.D. Alajuela, a top club in Costa Rica. We used the same facilities that the club's professional teams train and play on during their season.
We then took the time to tour the Central American nation's capital, San Jose.
Throughout the afternoon we toured the National Museum of Costa Rica, The Electoral Freedom Plaza, several important municipal buildings, "la escuela metálica" and much more. Among them was the National Stadium of Costa Rica, where we were able to get an inside look at the field, stadium seating, and locker rooms where some of the world's best soccer players haves suited up to play the game we all love.
After dinner, we finished off the evening with private zumba dancing lessons. This was a great opportunity for everyone to have fun together and learn different costa rican traditional dances including the merengue, the salsa, cumbia, and much more. Of course, some of the boys added their own flare, making the night only more memorable for everyone. Most memorable had to be Jace's backflip and Jalen's... enthusiasm.
Tomorrow, the team will volunteer at an underprivileged children's school to take local students through fun soccer-related activities for their recess period and play in their first match against the U20s of Deportivo Saprissa, a team which is widely regarded as the top club and academy in the country.
¡Pura Vida!
