HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College men's soccer team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 2–0 victory over Chatham on Wednesday night at Gibbel Stadium.
The Eagles (4-1-0) controlled the play from the start, outshooting the Cougars 18–5 and generating nine shots on target. Juniata broke through in the 18th minute when Jase Colino (assist by Gavin Rauhut) buried a chance off a set-up from the right side, giving the Eagles an early 1–0 advantage.
The hosts doubled their lead midway through the second half. In the 71st minute, Tre Henry finished off a cross from Pj Mashinski to make it 2–0, a score line that held until the final whistle.
Defensively, Juniata was dominant. Goalkeeper Maxwell Mattioni was untested across the 90 minutes as the Eagles held Chatham (2-3-0) without a shot on goal. On the other end, Cougar keeper Maxwell Cottrill kept the visitors close with six saves.
The match was physical at times, with Chatham's Josiah Lewis receiving the lone yellow card in the 56th minute. Both sides finished with two corner kicks, but Juniata maintained the sharper edge in possession and attacking pressure.
With the win, Juniata improves to 5-1-0 on the season and has now recorded three shutouts in its opening six matches. The Eagles will look to continue their strong start this weekend when host Swarthmore on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
