Baronner Leads Eagles in Altoona
Altoona, Pa.- Men's Swimming fought hard through tough sailing in Altoona. With a snowstorm coming, the Eagles battled through stormy seas with Elizabethtown winning 147.5 to 110 and PSU Altoona by a score of 164 to 98.
Max Baronner led the way for the Juniata men with the team's sole first-place finish on the day. He bagged his gold medal in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.82. Baronner also secured a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.18) earlier in the meet to add to his point total.
The 200-yard Freestyle Relay team of Max Baronner (24.64), Will Dovey (24.72), Matt Rota (24.38), and Ben Schultz (22.99) put up a strong performance, finishing second with a time of 1:36.73. They narrowly edged out Elizabethtown College for the silver by just 0.13 seconds.
The Eagles also picked up significant points in the freestyle sprints. Wyatt Cole claimed silver in the 100-yard freestyle (51.71) and bronze in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.08). Ben Schultz tied for second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.30.
Yui Inagi and Cody Hartle added depth to the scoring with multiple top-three finishes. Inagi took third in both the 100-yard backstroke (59.89) and the 100-yard freestyle (51.79). Hartle finished third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.05) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.38). Additionally, Christian Rota secured a third-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:32.47.
The Eagles will land next at the Landmark Conference Championships, starting February 12th.
