Guyot Leads Juniata Past Wilkes in Regular Season Finale, 5-2
Huntingdon, Pa - The Juniata men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a strong 5-2 victory over Wilkes Saturday afternoon at Raffensperger Tennis Courts.
The Eagles started doubles play with a thrilling win at No. 1, as Jules Guyot and Adrián Di Benedetto Vásquez edged their opponents in a tight tiebreaker. At No. 2, Arthur DeYoung and Gustaf Geremia battled but came up just short, falling 6-3. Juniata secured the doubles point thanks to a forfeit win at No. 3, where Come Burghgraeve and Dillon Murphy picked up the victory.
In singles, Guyot delivered an impressive comeback at No. 1, rallying after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Di Benedetto controlled his match at No. 2 from start to finish, winning 6-1, 6-2. Geremia was dominant at No. 5, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Burghgraeve earned another point for the Eagles with a forfeit win at No. 6.
Wilkes claimed wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles despite strong efforts from Arthur DeYoung and Dillon Murphy, but it wasn't enough to catch the Eagles.
Juniata now looks ahead to postseason play at Drew University on April 29th in the First Round of the Landmark Playoffs.
