Juniata Men’s Tennis Battles Hard in Road Loss to Allegheny
Meadville, Pa. – Juniata men's tennis opened its fall season on the road Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Allegheny at the Robertson Tennis Center in a competitive nonconference matchup.
The Eagles pushed several matches deep despite the final score, highlighted by a strong showing from Maksims Kazancevs at No. 1 singles. Kazancevs came out strong with a 6-2 win in the first set before dropping a tight second set 7-5. In the decisive super tiebreaker, he was edged 10-6 in a closely contested finish.
Juniata also saw strong play at the No. 4 singles spot from Gustaf Geremia, who battled to a 7-6 (9-7), 6-0 defeat after pushing the first set to a tiebreak. Arthur DeYoung was competitive as well, taking several games in a 7-5, 6-4 loss at No. 3 singles.
In doubles action, Kazancevs and Maxime Poustis challenged Allegheny's top pair before falling 7-5 at the No. 1 position. DeYoung and Lars Herms competed at No. 2 doubles but came up short, 6-2.
With limited depth forcing two forfeits, Juniata dropped its season opener and moves to 1-1 overall. The Eagles will look to regroup as they continue their fall schedule in search of their first road victory.
