Juniata’s Ben Wolff earns inaugural CVC Player of the Week award

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College senior middle Ben Wolff (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) earned the Continental Volleyball Conference's inaugural Player of the Week award, when it was announced Tuesday.
Wolff hit .486 while playing in five of Juniata's first six matches, helping the Eagles open their 2012 campaign with a 4-2 start.
He had a high of 12 kills on 19 attacks in Juniata's 3-1 loss at Division I Stanford University, with a pair of block assists – a performance that came two nights after putting away 11 kills on 18 error-free swings for a .611 attack clip versus NAIA-member Hope International University. Wolff closed out Juniata's west coast trip with seven kills and an ace against sixth-ranked UC-Santa Clara.
Wolff also had nine kills in another error-less performance against Elmira College in Juniata's final match of the Elmira Tournament. He had 12 swings for a .750 hitting percentage – his best hitting percentage over any of the five matches, and also had a hand on three blocks against the Soaring Eagles.
Earlier in the tournament, Wolff had three kills against only one error on seven attacks in a 3-0 win over 13th-ranked SUNY New Paltz, with two aces and one block assists.
Over his five matches played to start the season, Wolff averaged 2.33 kills per set and 2.81 points, along with 0.44 digs, 0.45 blocks, and 0.22 aces.
Juniata returns to action this Friday, Jan. 27, and Sat., Jan. 28, when the Eagles travel to Rochester, N.Y., to play in the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Tournament. Juniata will face D'Youville College and Elmira College on Friday, with a match against No. 9 MIT looming on Saturday.
