HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The No. 3 Juniata College men's volleyball team opens its 2014 home season Friday night as the Eagles host a two-day tri-match with No. 13 Kean University, No. 14 Elmira College and Hunter College. Juniata (2-0) will take on Elmira Friday night at 7:30 p.m. after Kean and Hunter face-off at 5 p.m.
"I think this is a good opportunity to see where we rank in the season," said head coach Kevin Moore. "We already have one weekend behind us. It gave us an opportunity to look at some different lineups. This weekend will give us an opportunity to see what guys do under pressure."
The Eagles are not shying away from tough competition, opening with two ranked teams. They were 6-1 at home against opponents in the top 15 last year. Juniata is 4-0 all-time against Elmira and the team's rivalry has grown in recent years as the games have become closer. They have gone five sets in their last two meetings, this year's matchup is set to be a battle.
The tri-match continues on Saturday morning. Juniata, with a short turnaround time, will take on Hunter College at 10 a.m. and then get a break before facing Kean at 5:30 p.m.
"That's where we have to rely on our depth," said Moore of the early start. "This year we have a lot of guys who when called upon, we can rely on. There are guys that may not see the court Friday night, because we need them Saturday morning to take on another tough opponent."
Juniata is 2-0 all-time over Hunter and tied 1-1 against Kean. Live stats and video will be available for the both days of competition. Visit the Tri-Match page for details on the game schedule and results.
"The guys have been looking forward to this since we came into preseason," Moore added. "We're looking forward to having a strong crowd behind us Friday."
