HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College softball bounced back from a game one loss to earn a hard-fought split with Wilkes University, falling 6–3 in the opener before rallying for an 8–5 win in game two Thursday afternoon at West End Field.
In game one, the Eagles were powered by Morgan Brumbaugh, who crushed a solo home run in the second inning and later ripped an RBI double to right center in the fourth. She finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Dani Berlin added an RBI single in the seventh, and Claire Thomas chipped in a pair of hits at the plate.
Jessie Hunt, Abby John, and Berlin each collected one hit, while Ashley Robuck scored after reaching on a fielder's choice. In the circle, Isabella Countryman took the loss, with Gracie Ruch and Rylea Lynch combining for five and a third innings of relief.
The offense caught fire in game two as Juniata exploded for 11 hits and scored eight unanswered runs to erase an early 5–0 deficit.
Hunt sparked the rally with a two-run single in the third, part of a 3-for-3 effort that included a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored. Alison Superka drove in two, including the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and John finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored.
Robuck brought home a run with a sacrifice fly, while Lexi Roush, Reagan Goldsmith, and Berlin each scored during the four-run fifth that gave Juniata the lead for good.
After a rocky start, Rylea Lynch steadied the game in relief, tossing five shutout innings, allowing just three hits, and earning the win.
With the split, Juniata will travel to Drew on Saturday, April 19th at 1 PM and 3 PM.
