WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Juniata softball team bounced back in a big way to earn a doubleheader split at Lycoming on Wednesday afternoon, falling in a tightly contested 6–5 opener before shutting out the Warriors 2–0 in Game 2 behind a dominant pitching performance.
Game 1: Lycoming 6, Juniata 5
Juniata got off to a fast start, plating three runs in the opening frame thanks to aggressive base running and a key extra-base hit. Eva Johnson came around to score on a throwing error, and Morgan Brumbaugh followed with a two-run double to put the Eagles ahead early.
After Alison Superka launched a solo home run in the third—her first of the day and second of the season—Juniata held a 4–1 lead. Brumbaugh added another RBI in the inning to push the margin to 5–5 in the fifth, driving in Lexi Roush, who had entered as a pinch runner.
Despite the early offensive success, four defensive errors proved costly for Juniata, as Lycoming capitalized with three unearned runs. The Warriors scratched across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a double.
Gracie Ruch took the loss in relief, allowing two earned runs over four innings. Starter Isabella Countryman pitched the first 2.1 innings, giving up four runs (two earned).
Juniata outhit Lycoming 8–7 in the contest, led by multi-hit efforts from Alex Douglass (2-for-4) and Superka (2-for-4, HR).
Game 2: Juniata 2, Lycoming 0
In the nightcap, it was all about the arm of Maryn Swank, who turned in a complete-game shutout. The freshman right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out one without issuing a walk, improving to 3–5 on the year.
Offensively, Juniata broke through in the sixth inning. Jessie Hunt reached base and scored on Superka's second home run of the day—another blast to left that gave the Eagles the only runs they would need.
Superka finished the day 4-for-7 with two home runs and four RBIs across both games. Kay Magill also added a pair of hits in the Game 2 win.
The Eagles improved to 12–24 (4–10 Landmark) with the victory, while Lycoming dropped to 13–14 (4–10).
Juniata will return to action on May 3rd against Scranton at home at 12:00 and 3:00 PM.
