CLERMONT, Fl. – The Juniata softball team earned another split as they lost to Skidmore 5-1 before defeating Marywood 10-9, Monday morning on day two of their Florida trip.
The pitchers controlled the first three innings of the game, as the Eagles traded zeros with Skidmore.
An RBI double down the right field line put the Thoroughbreds ahead in the fourth. They added four more in the next inning as Juniata trailed by five through five innings.
Juniata got one back in the sixth with Cailee Barnett's sacrifice fly that scored Lexi Roush.
Cheyenne Silvis started and went five innings while allowing five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Gracie Ruch allowed two hits in one inning of work in the sixth.
In game two, Natalie Short put the Eagles up two in the first with a two-run single to right field.
In the top of the second, the Pacers responded with five runs. Juniata answered with five runs of their own, as Dani Berlin, Claire Thomas and Grace Hensch all drove in runs for the Eagles. JC led 7-5 through two innings.
Marywood scored four more runs in the third, to put Juniata back down two.
Chelsea Williams led off the bottom of the fifth with an infield single, with Ashley Robuck and Eva Johnson getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Berlin drove in a run with a sac fly to right, Thomas walked to load the bases again before Roush drove in Robuck with a sac fly to center. Hensch plated Johnson with a single to center to make it 10-9.
Maryn Swank pitched 3.2 innings in relief to get the win, going 3.2 innings and allowing a run on five hits with three strikeouts. Silvis entered in the seventh, earning the save, striking out two of three batters she faced.
Juniata is back at it tomorrow, playing Curry at 9:00am and Alfred at 11:30.
