Softball Drops Pair of Close Games to Close Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fl.- The Juniata softball team lost a pair of tight games, losing 6-5 to Hood and 2-1 to Suffolk, on Wednesday afternoon.
In the first game against Hood, Maddy Detz traded zeros with the Blazer pitcher through the first four innings.
The Eagle offense got going in the fifth. Ashley Robuck led off with a walk, Eva Johnson reached on an error, and Dani Berlin drew a full-count walk. Two batters later, Lexi Roush reached on an error, Amanda Townley's walk sent Berlin home, and Brooklyn Walker pushed the lead to four with a two-run single up the middle.
Hood got within one in the sixth with a three-run homer, and scored three more in the seventh to go up by two.
Walker continued to mash, driving a double to right to score Roush, but the Eagles couldn't manufacture the tying run.
Detz tossed four innings and allowed a hit with one strikeout.
In game two in the top of the first, Grace Hensch doubled to right center to score Claire Thomas. In the bottom half of the inning, the Rams scored on a single down the right field line and a double down the left field line to go up 2-1, which proved to be the difference.
Silvis went 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with a strikeout. Ruch allowed one hit in her one inning of work.
Juniata will travel to Maryland to take part in a two-day tournament. On Friday, they will play SUNY New Paltz at 1:30 and Muhlenberg at 3:30.
