WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Juniata softball team lost twice at the Catholic University of America, 5-0 and 11-3 (six innings), on Tuesday afternoon.
Cheyenne Silvis got the start in game one, allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
The Cardinals took advantage of an Eagle error in the first to score their first run of the game.
The teams traded zeros, until the Cardinals broke through in the sixth. They tallied four runs on four hits to push their lead to five.
The Eagles opened the seventh strong with a double to right center by Cailee Barnett, and Grace Hensch followed with a single to right, but JC couldn't manufacture a run.
In game two, Juniata struck first in the second inning via a two-run single by Amanda Townley that scored Hensch and Dani Berlin. Catholic responded in the bottom half of the inning with eight runs on seven hits to go up by six runs.
Catholic added another run in the fourth, Berlin drove Hensch in the top half of the sixth before the hosts ended things with a home run to left.
Juniata will return action at Elizabethtown, Saturday, beginning at 1:00.
