Juniata Falls Twice to Susquehanna Despite Strong Day from Berlin
Huntingdon, Pa. – Juniata softball drops both ends of a Landmark Conference doubleheader to Susquehanna, falling 4-2 in game one and 2-1 in game two Wednesday afternoon at West End Field.
In the opener, Eva Johnson and Grace Hensch each scored as Juniata (13-18, 3-6 Landmark) answered a two-run first inning from Susquehanna with a pair of runs of its own. Claire Thomas drove in a run on a sacrifice fly before Dani Berlin tied the game with an RBI single.
The River Hawks regained the lead in the second on an RBI double and added an insurance run in the fourth. Juniata totaled six hits, with Berlin going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Johnson, Hensch, and Thomas each recorded a hit. Cheyenne Silvis tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out six.
In game two, Juniata was limited to one run despite seven hits as Susquehanna completed the sweep. The River Hawks struck in the first inning and added another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Juniata broke through in the sixth when Berlin delivered her second RBI of the day, scoring Johnson to cut the deficit to one, but the Eagles were unable to push across the tying run.
Berlin finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double, while Johnson also had two hits and scored the lone run. In the circle, Maddy Detz started and allowed one run over three innings, while Gracie Ruch worked four innings in relief, giving up one run on seven hits.
Juniata returns to action this weekend as they travel to Wilkes for conference play.
