Wilkes Sweeps Doubleheader from Juniata Behind Strong Pitching
Edwardsville, Pa. – Juniata was limited offensively in both games as Wilkes earned a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 3-0 and game two 4-0.
In the opener, Juniata recorded six hits but could not push a run across. Grace Hensch, Claire Thomas, Lexi Roush, Amanda Townley, Eva Johnson, and Morgan Fraker each tallied hits, with Hensch and Townley both collecting doubles. Wilkes broke through in the second inning with two runs, capitalizing on an RBI single and a Juniata error, before adding an insurance run in the fourth.
Cheyenne Silvis went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out five.
Game two saw Juniata held to just two hits as Wilkes completed the sweep. Grace Hensch and Claire Thomas accounted for the Eagles' only hits. Wilkes again struck early, scoring twice in the second inning on a two-run double, then added single runs in the third and sixth to extend the lead.
Maddy Detz started and allowed two runs over two innings, while Gracie Ruch pitched four innings in relief, giving up two runs.
Juniata will look to bounce back against Drew next weekend at home.
