River Hawks Pull Away From Eagles in Second Half
SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road at Susquehanna University, 80-43, Wednesday evening inside O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Laney Gerdich led the way with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while Michaela Owens tallied 10 points and an assist off the bench.
Susquehanna opened the game up with an 11-4 spurt, with Gerdich and Emma Coolidge scoring for the Eagles early. Leah Skweres found Olivia Berg for a corner three to bring JC within four. Later, two Makenna Hartman foul shots made it 15-11. The River Hawks closed the quarter on a 10-3 run as the Eagles trailed 25-14 after one.
The second quarter opened with Owens making two foul shots and a jumper, sandwiched around a Gerdich layup. SU pushed the lead back to 10 and controlled the rest of the quarter as they led 41-28 at the break.
Owens led the way in the first half as she tallied nine points, while Coolidge helped keep possessions alive as she nabbed five offensive rebounds in the first half.
SU outscored the Eagles 39-15 in the second half as they eliminated any Eagle attempts at a comeback.
The hosts had a 52-16 advantage in points in the paint and scored 19 points in transition.
Juniata will return to action at home against Drew University at 4:00.
