Juniata Women’s Basketball Wins Third Straight, Tops Goucher 72–51
Huntingdon, Pa. – Juniata women's basketball used a dominant second quarter and a balanced offensive effort to secure its third straight win, pulling away from Goucher for a 72–51 victory on Saturday afternoon.
After a tightly contested opening quarter, Juniata seized control with a 28–18 advantage in the second period, taking a 40–29 lead into halftime and never looking back. The Eagles continued to build separation in the third quarter, outscoring the Gators 15–3 to stretch the margin into double digits and cruising the rest of the way.
Bri Bodtorf led the way with a game-high 21 points, adding 11 rebounds and six assists to complete a dominant all-around performance. Laney Gerdich chipped in 10 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting, while Emily McCann knocked down three three-pointers on her way to nine points.
Juniata shot 43.3 percent from the field and controlled the glass with a 52–34 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive rebounds that helped keep possessions alive. The Eagles also outscored Goucher 34–24 in the paint and finished with a 13–5 edge in assists, highlighting strong ball movement throughout the game.
Goucher was paced by Aniya McDaniel's 15 points, but the Gators were held to 27.4 percent shooting and went scoreless on fastbreak opportunities, as Juniata's defense consistently limited transition chances.
Juniata built its largest lead at 25 points in the fourth quarter and finished with contributions across the lineup, as the bench matched Goucher with 17 points.
The Eagles will travel to Elizabethtown to faceoff with the Blue Jays on Wednesday, January 14th at 7:00 PM.
