Women's Golf Opens The Spring Season at Penn State
State College, Pa.- Women's golf opened their spring season at the Penn State White Course as it took on the 5,672-yard course in cold and windy conditions. However, the Eagles fared well, shooting 389 as a team, falling below their stroke average from the fall.
Madeline Bainey led the Eagles today with a 93 after a dominant back nine, shooting 43. Bainey rattled off pars before making a birdie on the 540-yard 14th hole. She will start day two in 23rd place, looking to climb the leaderboard. Lily Stewart followed Bainey, returning from injury, shooting 96. Stewart found three pars in her last five holes and will look to build on the momentum tomorrow. Molly Schweitzer battled the wind but started off with a par enroute to a 97. She sits in 33rd place after a 47 on the front nine. Kylee Marshall rounded out the scoring members for the Eagles, shooting a 103 in her first event of the spring. Marshall found success on the back nine, finding a par on the 11th hole. Jazmine Boland rounded out the starting five for the Eagles, shooting 104. Boland carded a 49th on the back nine and poured in a par on the 13th.
The Eagles will return to State College tomorrow to play the White Course in slightly warmer conditions, teeing off at 11:06 AM.
