Eagles Eradicate Blue Jays, Advance to Landmark Semifinals
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team pulled away in the second half as they defeated the Elizabethtown Blue Jays, 18-10, Tuesday evening in stormy conditions at Gibbel Stadium in the first round of the Landmark Playoffs.
Peyton Goodrich (Reading, Pa. / Berks Catholic) totaled five goals, an assist, two ground balls, and a draw control, while Ella McGlaughlin (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area High School) contributed four goals and a ground ball. Kelliann Drummond (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) had three goals, a ground ball, and a caused turnover, while Devyn Mauger (Lancaster, Pa. / Penn Manor HS) had three goals, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Kyndall Yeager (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) had a goal, two assists, and six draw controls. Shannon Para (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac) and Elayna Stubbe (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin HS) added a goal apiece. Maeve Kuser (Upperco, Md. / Hereford) added five caused turnovers with four ground balls. Mikayla Bodley (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County HS) made six saves in goal.
Free position goals from Mauger and McGlaughlin helped Juniata keep the pace, before Drummond and Goodrich scored to make it 4-2. Etown pulled one back in the final minute, but McGlaughlin struck again to make it 5-3 after one.
The second was tightly contested with Stubbe, Mauger, and McGlaughlin scoring for the Eagles, as Juniata led 8-5 at the half.
The Blue Jays narrowed the Eagle advantage a minute and a half into the third, but Goodrich found Par, and Drummond scored 10-6. Goodrich scored on another free position, Drummond found the back of the net off a Yager assist, and Goodrich's fourth goal.
Five Eagles scored five in the final quarter, with Mauger, McGlaughlin, and Goodrich finding the back of the net as they held off Etown for the win. JC had an advantage in shots, 41-18.
Juniata will travel to take on Catholic University in the Landmark Semifinals, Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
