Juniata Swimmers Battle Hard at Susquehanna; Women Edge Close in 134–127 Finish
Selinsgrove, Pa. — The Juniata College men's and women's swimming & diving teams both turned in strong performances on the road Saturday, competing neck-and-neck with Landmark Conference rival Susquehanna University. The Eagles claimed numerous individual and relay victories, with the women narrowly falling 134–127, while the men came up short 184–78.
Women's Recap
The Juniata women opened the meet on a high note, winning the 200 medley relay in 1:58.07, thanks to Coltan Swarts, Lena Englerth, Danielle Cline, and Megan Mikell, who edged the River Hawks by less than a second. Eleanor Smith continued her strong start to the season, picking up victories in both the 1,000 freestyle (11:17.13) and 500 freestyle (5:35.17), showing consistency in distance events. Swarts added wins in the 100 backstroke (1:03.75) and 200 backstroke (2:18.38), while Cline impressed with a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle (2:07.52) and a close second in the 100 freestyle (58.35).
In the sprints, Mikell placed second in the 50 freestyle (26.13), and Kasey Williams finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:07.16). Abby Ortiz led a strong Juniata effort in the 200 IM, finishing second with a time of 2:26.90.
The Eagles capped their meet with a stellar showing in the 400 freestyle relay, as Swarts, Smith, Cline, and Lakelynn Godfrey finished in 3:54.03, just behind Susquehanna's top quartet.
Men's Recap
On the men's side, Juniata opened with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Logan Stewart, Max Baronner, Wyatt Cole, and Ben Schultz clocked in at 1:45.55, narrowly trailing the River Hawks' B-team.
Cody Hartle led the distance group with a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (11:06.90) and added strong performances in the 200 butterfly (2:16.56) and 200 IM (2:22.05). Marshall Radonovich earned first place in the 500 freestyle (5:17.26) and took third in the 100 backstroke (1:00.23) to anchor Juniata's mid-distance efforts. Baronner continued his early-season momentum with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.95) and another podium spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.33), while Cole added solid contributions in the 100 freestyle (52.57) and 200 freestyle (1:58.89).
The Eagles concluded the meet with a strong second-place effort in the 400 freestyle relay, where Baronner, Schultz, Radonovich, and Yui Inagi combined for a time of 3:41.96.
