Smith Breaks 500 Free School Record on Opening Night of Cougar Splash
Dallas, Pa. – Juniata closed the opening night of the Cougar Splash in sixth place on the women's leaderboard through eight events with 28 points, highlighted by a program record in the 500-yard freestyle.
Eleanor Smith delivered the Eagles' top moment of the night by breaking the school record in the 500 free, finishing sixth overall with a time of 5:19.24. Juniata added key depth scoring in the event from Delany Wetzel with a time of 5:33.66. Abby Ortiz, Lakelynn Godfrey, Ellie Parton, and Kimber Beeler also competed in the event.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Coltan Swarts placed 10th with a time of 2:21.45, while Maegan Jordan and Miriam Struble-Hedstrom followed close behind. The Eagles also filled the results sheet in the 50-yard freestyle, led by Megan Mikell's 11th-place finish and time of 25:77.
Juniata's A and B 200-yard medley relay teams rounded out the night with eighth and 11th-place finishes, respectively, helping the Eagles stay within reach heading into Saturday's session.
The Eagles will compete in Day Two tomorrow morning.
