Juniata Sweeps Penn State Altoona 9-0 At Home

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College women's tennis team played its final match of the fall season, Thursday, and earned the 9-0 sweep of Penn State Altoona. The Eagles only lost 15 total games in singles play and just two in doubles.


The newcomers for Juniata made a strong showing in their first collegiate dual match. Freshman Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) defeated Barbush Rachael 6-1, 6-1, from the number one singles position. Classmates Felicia Roppelt (York, Pa./Central York), Samantha Hendricks (McVeytown, Pa./Mifflin County) and Alex Willis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) rounded out singles play with Hendricks winning 6-0, 6-0 from the number five spot.


In doubles play, the pairing of senior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and junior Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) improved to 6-2 on the season after defeating Rachael Barbush and Irene Lee, 8-0. First time pairing of junior Charlotte Caddick (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and freshman Devin Ryman (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) won 8-1 from the number three position.


The Eagles will return to action in the spring with the start of their championship season.
