Yessenaliyeva Named Landmark Player and Rookie of the Year; Eagles Earn Second Team Doubles Spot
TOWSON, Md.- The Juniata women's tennis team earned several Landmark Conference accolades, notably both Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors for Medina Yessenaliyeva. She placed on the Landmark All-Conference First Team for singles competition, while she and Celia Navarro de Torres placed on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team for doubles competition.
Yessenaliyeva earned both the Landmark Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors following an undefeated record in nine matches of Landmark Conference first singles competition. Across those matches, she dropped zero sets and no more than six games across a single match. Her overall record in singles matches was 14-5. She becomes the second Eagle to sweep the awards after Lauren Lucas accomplished the feat in 2016. Yessenaliyeva shares Player of the Year honors with Drew University's Melina Christodoulou
Yessenaliyeva and Navarro de Torres earn a Second Team doubles spot after going 6-3 in Landmark Conference first doubles action. Their overall record was 10-9.
The Juniata women's tennis team made a sizable improvement in the 2023-24 season, as they picked up the program's first conference win since the 2020-21 season and ended the conference campaign with two wins. The program's four wins overall and two in the Landmark Conference are the most in a single season since 2017-18 team went 9-9, 3-4.
