Yessenaliyeva Powers Juniata to 6-1 Victory Over Wilkes
Huntingdon, Pa - The Juniata women's tennis team capped off its regular season in dominant fashion, earning a 6-1 win over Wilkes on Saturday at Raffensperger Tennis Courts.
The Eagles swept doubles play to grab the early momentum. At No. 1, Medina Yessenaliyeva and Celia Navarro de Torres were flawless, winning 6-0. Charley Madlock and Sydney Madlock teamed up for a 6-3 victory at No. 2, and Nina Meadows and Katie Wagoner fought through a tight set to take No. 3, 7-5.
In singles action, Juniata stayed in control. Medina Yessenaliyeva made quick work of her opponent at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-0. Navarro De Torres followed with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2. Sydney Madlock continued the momentum with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
At No. 4 and No. 5, Meadows and Charley Madlock each pulled out 8-game pro set wins to add to the Eagles' tally. Wilkes picked up its lone point at No. 6 singles despite a strong effort from Shveta Kalathur.
With the win, Juniata heads to Scranton on Wednesday at 4:00 PM as the #6 seed in the Landmark Tennis First Round.
