Juniata WVB falls to no.1-ranked Washington-St. Louis in five; rebounds to defeat Susquehanna

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – In a battle of Division III women’s volleyball unbeatens, Juniata College dropped a 3-2 decision to Washington University-St. Louis, to open the second day of competition at the DePauw University Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.
Set scores for Washington University were 27-25, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, and 18-16.
Senior middle Kristin Noetzel (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional) paced the Eagles with 18 kills and four blocks. Junior libero Libby Morrison (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) put away four service aces to go with her 39 digs.
The loss to Washington University sent Juniata (11-1) into the 3rd/4th place match of the bracket crossover matches, where the Eagles notched a 3-0 win over Landmark Conference-rival Susquehanna University. Set scores for the Eagles were 26-24, 25-14, and 25-16. The win does not count as a Landmark Conference victory for Juniata.
Morrison again proved to be the defensive player to watch in the tournament, as she finished with 26 digs and was named to an All-Tournament Team for the third straight week. Junior Drew Barnhart (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) logged 10 kills against the Crusaders.
Joining Morrison on the All-Tournament squad was sophomore opposite Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion). Fuller had 13 kills and 13 digs with three assists in the loss to Washington University, and recorded eight kills with two digs in two sets versus Susquehanna.
