Taylor Named Landmark Athlete of the Week in Week One
TOWSON, Md.- Juniata women's volleyball standout Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del./ Delaware Military Academy) was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week in the Eagle's first week of competition.
The volleyball team took the road to compete at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. The Eagles came out of the weekend 2-1.
On Friday, Juniata opened their season by facing Ithaca, which resulted in a 3-1 win (25-13, 25-15, 21-25, 25-11) over the Bombers who were receiving votes in the AVCA national poll. With a quick turnaround, they then played #6 John Hopkins on Saturday morning, who they lost to 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-15). The Eagles hit back Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 25-10) win against St. John Fisher to wrap up the weekend.
Taylor defended her All-American name this weekend with a .301 hitting percentage and 40 kills. In her first game, Taylor led the Eagles to a win against #12 Ithaca with 17 kills while securing 19 points. On Saturday, she put pressure on #6 Johns Hopkins with 11 kills and 11 points. Saturday afternoon Taylor came back strong in the final game against St. John Fisher with 12 kills and a .367 kill percentage to bring home the second win of the weekend.
The Eagles will return home this weekend for the first time in the 2021 season to host the Asics Invitational. The Eagles will host Randolph-Macon, Arcadia, and Franklin & Marshall.
