Baseball Opens in Florida With a 10-5 Win Over Albert Magnus
Davenport, Fl. – The Juniata baseball team improved to 3-0 with a 10-5 win over Albert Magnus on day one of their Florida excursion.
Juniata loaded the bases in the first with walks from Zach Johnston, Jace Irvin and Ethan Pfeffer. Ricky Scott and Landon Blank drew back-to-back walks to put JC up 2-0 midway through the first. The Falcons tied things up in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on an Eagle error and an RBI single.
David Beard drove in Irvin on a fielders choice in the third, and Irvin drove in two more in the fourth with a two-run homer. Later in the fourth, Beard's infield single scored Matthew Quigley. An RBI-single in the bottom half of the fourth made it 6-3.
Johnston drove in Connor Blough with an RBI-single to left in the fifth to push Juniata's lead back to four.
Matthew Koehler drove in Landon Blank with a single to right in the seventh, and Johnston brought him home with a homerun of his own.
The Falcons scored two runs in the eighth to complete the scoreline.
Braelan Huber went 3.2 innings while allowing eight hits, three runs on seven strikeouts. Krieg Pierce got the win in relief, going two innings and allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
Juniata returns to action tomorrow against Dominican at 2:15.
