Huntingdon, Pa. – The Juniata baseball team dropped a high-scoring contest to Mary Washington, 14-10, on Saturday afternoon at Langdon-Goodale Field.
Juniata fell behind early as Mary Washington scored four runs in the first inning and added two in the third and three in the fourth to build a 9-4 advantage.
The Eagles answered in the second inning when Ty Vickers tripled home a run and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Pfeffer. Juniata added two more in the third on a two-run home run from Zach Johnston, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
After Mary Washington extended its lead, Juniata chipped away again in the sixth. Vickers brought in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Matthew Koehler followed with an RBI double to make it 11-6.
Juniata added two more in the seventh on an RBI double from Matthew Quigley and a sacrifice fly by Johnston. In the eighth, Koehler delivered a two-run home run to bring the Eagles within four at 14-10.
Koehler led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI. Johnston added a home run and three RBI, while Connor Blough and Jace Irvin each recorded three hits. Vickers finished with two RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Hunter Thomas took the loss after allowing nine runs over 3.1 innings. Logan Sigg tossed two innings in relief, while several pitchers combined to finish the game.
Juniata totaled 15 hits but was unable to overcome Mary Washington's 18-hit performance.
