Vickers Goes 3-3 Against Colonels
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team rallied several times but couldn't quite complete the comeback as they lost to Wilkes University, Sunday afternoon at Langdon Goodale Field.
The Colonels exploded out of the gates as they scored five runs on four hits in the top of the first.
Ty Vickers got one back for the Eagles in the second with an RBI single to right that scored Matthew Koehler.
Wilkes responded in the top half of the fourth before Vickers drove in another run on a sacrifice fly to left and Ethan Pfeffer scored from third on a passed ball.
A two-run single to center by the Colonels put the Eagles down 8-3, but the Eagles pushed two more runs across the plate in the bottom half of the fifth to get back within three.
Wilkes tallied three additional runs in the sixth, before Zach Johnston drove in a run via a fielder's choice, Koehler drove in two runs with a single to center and Jackson Cunnane drew a bases loaded walk. Juniata was back within two, 11-9.
Johnston added an RBI-double to center in the seventh to make it 11-10.
The visitors added some insurance in the eighth via a two-run homer to left.
Juniata returns to action Tuesday as they host Mount Aloysius, first pitch is at 4:00.
