3-4 Day From Vickers Leads Juniata over Catholic
Huntingdon, Pa. – The Juniata baseball team earned an 8-5 win over Catholic on Wednesday afternoon at Langdon-Goodale Field.
Catholic jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a pair of unearned runs, but Juniata responded immediately. Jace Irvin and Matthew Koehler created pressure on the bases in the second, leading to a run before Charlie Bakken delivered an RBI single to even the score at 2-2.
The Eagles took control in the third inning as Jackson Cunnane drove in a run with a single and David Beard followed with an RBI knock to give Juniata a 4-2 advantage. Catholic pulled within one on a solo home run in the fourth, but Juniata answered again with Zach Johnston bringing home a run on a single to extend the lead to 5-3.
Juniata continued to add on, scoring in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Ty Vickers, before breaking things open in the eighth. Vickers ripped an RBI double and Johnston added his second RBI hit of the day to push the lead to 8-3.
Catholic mounted a late push with a two-run home run in the ninth, but the Eagles held on to secure the win.
Offensively, Juniata totaled 14 hits, led by Ty Vickers, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Zach Johnston also had a strong day, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Matthew Koehler added two hits and scored a run. Jackson Cunnane and Landon Blank each recorded two hits, and Charlie Bakken and David Beard both drove in runs.
On the mound, Tim Coleman started and allowed two unearned runs over three innings. Aidan Chermol followed with an inning of relief, while Ben Ryan provided three scoreless innings. Landen Eichhorn closed out the game, allowing two runs while striking out four over the final two innings.
