Eagles Swipe 11 Bags In Big Win Over PSU Altoona
HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team picked up a big 15-5 (seven innings) win over visiting Penn State Altoona, Monday afternoon at Langdon Goodale.
Zach Johnston went 3-5 with two doubles, five RBI, a stolen base, and three runs scored, while Ty Vickers was 2-3 with an RBI, four stolen bases, and three runs scored. Vickers four stolen bases tie the program's single-game record, which Johnston tied earlier and was set by Matt Eisenberg in 2000. Nate Epstein was 3-4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases while starting in center field. Connor Blough got the start on the mound and got the win. He went 5.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Juniata didn't waste any time as they scored four runs on two hits and an error, highlighted by Johnston's two-run double to left center, which scored Jace Irvin and Vickers.
The second inning saw the Eagles score four runs on four hits, highlighted again by Johnston. This time, he smacked a two-run single to again drive in Vickers and Irvin. Landon Blank later drove in Johnston. Vickers drove in the first run of the inning, scoring Epstein with a single through the right side.
The Eagles put up a massive third, scoring seven runs on six hits, with Matthew Koehler driving in two runs with a single down the right field line and David Beard plating two more with a single to right center.
The Lions scored once in the fourth, again in the fifth, and three more in the seventh.
Aedan Hrivnak struck out the final PSU Altoona batter to end the game.
The Eagles were dynamic on the basepath, stealing 11 bases.
They will travel to Penn State Altoona for a doubleheader on Thursday, with the first pitch at 1:00.
