Mattioni Records Another Shutout as Eagles Battle to Scoreless Draw at York
York, PA - Juniata men's soccer continued its strong defensive form on the road Tuesday night, earning a 0-0 draw against York (Pa.) at Graham Field. The result marks the Eagles' second straight shutout and extends their unbeaten streak to five matches.
Goalkeeper Maxwell Mattioni was once again a difference-maker in net, stopping both shots he faced to secure his fifth clean sheet of the season. The junior anchored a disciplined defensive unit that held off a late surge from the Spartans, who registered six of their eight total shots in the second half.
On the offensive end, Juniata matched York shot-for-shot with eight attempts, including two on goal. Midfielder Brandon Marzula led the attack with three shots and one on target, while Nathan Weick added another shot on goal as the Eagles looked for a breakthrough. Jalen Holliday and Liam Kolbay were also active in the attack, each contributing key opportunities in the final third.
The Eagles held steady despite increased pressure in the closing minutes, highlighted by strong performances from defenders Ryan Angelone and Kolbay, who played the full 90 minutes and helped limit York's scoring chances off seven corner kicks.
With the draw, Juniata moves to 5-2-4 on the season. The Eagles will turn their attention back to Landmark Conference action this weekend as they look to build on their recent defensive momentum when they face off with Wilkes on Senior Day, this Saturday, October 4th at 4 PM.
