Juniata Women’s Tennis Falls to Scranton in Season Finale
SCRANTON, Pa. – The Juniata women's tennis team closed out its 2025 season in the First Round of the 2025 Landmark Tennis playoffs on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-1 decision to Scranton at the Royal Courts.
The Eagles picked up their lone point of the match in the top doubles spot, where Medina Yessenaliyeva and Celia Navarro teamed up for a 6-4 victory. However, Scranton responded by taking the next two doubles matches, as Charley Madlock and Sydney Madlock fell 6-4 at No. 2 and the duo of Nina Meadows and Katie Wagoner dropped their match at No. 3 by the same score.
In singles action, Yessenaliyeva was dominant at the top of the lineup, defeating Jean-Pierre in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, for Juniata's only singles win. Scranton clinched the match with victories at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles. Navarro dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision at the No. 2 spot, Charley Madlock fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5, and Wagoner was defeated 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.
The matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, featuring Sydney Madlock and Meadows, respectively, went unfinished after Scranton secured the team victory.
With the loss, Juniata wraps up its season with a competitive showing, highlighted by Yessenaliyeva's strong play at the top of the lineup.
